Volunteer at the Copper Kings 100 endurance run

On Friday June 27, 2025, 100 runners from 20 states and one province will start a new 100 mile endurance run around Butte, Montana called the Copper Kings 100.

The Copper Kings 100 is only the second 100 mile endurance run currently in Montana. We are looking for local volunteers and to join us in creating Montana’s next great hundred miler!

Questions? Email Copper Kings 100 creator and race director Wes Plate at wes@onwardendurance.com

The Copper Kings 100 will have 8 aid stations plus the finish line where we will have volunteer positions available.

No experience is necessary! Just a willingness to help runners refill their water bottles, bring them a bite to eat, and offer a smile or words of encouragement as they work on moving around the 100 mile loop.

We are also seeking medically-trained volunteers at each aid station who can offer first aid and help runners get patched-up and back on the course. Common medical issues at aid stations.

Volunteers make these events possible!

Companies or clubs that can provide multiple volunteers will be included in a special sponsor listing on our web site and at the event.

The route was developed by ultra runner Wes Plate, who has deep family connections to Butte. Wes’ parents were born and raised in Butte. Wes’ dad’s dad worked in the mines, and his mom’s dad was Don Ulrich, a well-known insurance agent and county commissioner. Wes’ aunts still live in Butte and cousins still ranch in the area.

In June 2023 and June 2024 small groups of runners tested the course. In June 2025 we will host a sold-out field of 100 runners for a new annual endurance event that will surely become a classic in the state of Montana.
